Scribal Links of Interest
Hello At the last scribal meeting we talked a lot about online resources for art and I was asked to share a few.
One of my favorite links as you can search by type as well as time period. I also like the function that allows you to “blow up” the image http://www.wga.hu/
This should be a link to the SCA Scribes_and_Illumination Yahoo Group they have a fabulous Photo Gallery to look through. I believe it is a moderated list, so you will need to join to have access to the links and images. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SCA_Scribes_and_Illumination/?yguid=155069198
Links from our own An Tir Scribal site: http://www.scribes.antir.sca.org/Resources/ScribesGallery.html
Google Image searches such as “Renaissance Illumination” turn up scads of images, as well “Medieval Illumination” though it is somewhat less successful. They will both turn up peoples’ flikr accounts which can be fun to look at.
If you are interested in original works, I suggest search terms such as “15th century Illumination” replace the century with your century of interest. It takes some time and patience and if you find something you like bookmark it. For example a Google image search for “14th Century Illumination” turned up this talented artist: http://meisterin.katarina.home.comcast.net/~meisterin.katarina/my_work.html
Hope that helps. I highly recommend the Yahoo group as it is a treasure trove of links and images. There are a plethora of very talented Scribes and their works there. As always if you have any questions feel free to email me at t.peer@comcast.net.
